Optimal Stopping

“Epic!”

“Expands your mind”

“Like a dance version of Picasso’s Geurnica”

The premiere performance of Optimal Stopping required the two groups of dancers (from Wollongong and Mexico) to perform a work known to both groups but never rehearsed together. Audiences (who themselves had input into the casting of the work) had the opportunity to witness the two groups of dancers from opposite sides of the globe meet each other during the act of performing. The audience casting choices that were made prior to each performance ensured that every show had the freshness and danger of that very first meeting. These choices also provided insight into how the dancer who performs a dance affects how we see that dance.

Half arsed remembering, seeking tenderness in a void and coming out of battle only to have the wheels fall off and things burst apart at the seams.

Optimal Stopping seeks to find ways of moving together and solving problems across human difference
