Three Kings (in development)

Three Kings is a solo work by Lisa Maris McDonell inspired by her family lineages from ancient times to the present day. Though it uses as a starting point Lisa’s personal Irish, Máori (Ngati Awa, Waikato Tainui), English and Spanish family histories, more broadly it explores the movement of humans across the planet and comments on the ravages of colonisation whilst examining the truth that for many of us, we are at once the colonised and the coloniser.

Utilising an audience configuration that generates implicit interaction, the work encourages audiences to put themselves in the place of the “other”, with the “other” shifting constantly throughout the course of the show. The work seeks to celebrate and acknowledge human difference whilst commenting on our shared human experience.

Three Kings is currently being developed through a series of residencies and activities in Aotearoa New Zealand, Ireland and Australia in partnership with Uillinn: West Cork Arts Centre, Dance Cork Firkin Crane, Greywood Arts and Shellharbour Council.
