In Development

The BUDGDET is an ongoing video and performance project that follows on from The $20 Commissions Project.

The BUDGET looks at an artist’s relationship to money in a world that requires everything to have a dollar value.

In November 2025 The BUDGET had its third phase of development as part of Happy Hour at Sydney’s ReadyMade Works. This edition of The BUDGET doubled as both project development and performance, with iconic Sydney performers (who also happen to have day jobs propping up our dance community through their academic, teaching, producing and directing roles) Lizzie Thompson, Jane McKernon, Emma Saunders, Maya Gavish and Nalina Wait drawing on their years of performing, improvisation and problem solving experience to pull off a performance that had only been discussed but not rehearsed (as our budget only allowed for that). The performers were accompanied by videographer Martin Fox who provided a live-feed of the performance through hand-held devices.

The BUDGET requires that all phases of development stick to industry award rates and have an outcome that is presented through the lens of a marketing trope. The following video includes the outcomes from two development stages, one that had a budget of $0 where Lisa was the recipient of an unfunded residency (video updates of the residency were shared via instagram), and the second that had a budget of $200 and resulted in a 1800 style commercial with collaborator Linda Luke.
